Brotherhood Recap 2024-25

Guys only events

  • Brotherhood Breakfasts at the Owl Diner – These are well attended breakfasts, and no one leaves hungry. We also have a breakfast in the social hall once a year.

  • Monthly Guys night out – We meet at a different local restaurant each month to share food and camaraderie with our Brotherhood friends.

  • Bike Rides -Usually we ride the Bruce Freeman Rail Trail at a pace so no one gets dropped.

  • Ski trip – Usually midweek, we head to a NH mountain.

  • Snowshoe Hikes – We explore the various trails and woods in the area.

  • Foliage Hike – Held on a Sunday morning in the fall, we head to a southern NH mountain which offers great views.

  • Fall Kickoff party – Have you tasted Cris’ award-winning brisket? If not, come to the Fall kickoff party to see why everyone raves about it.

  • Spring Annual meeting BBQ – The wrap up event for the year is a BBQ in the Temple parking lot in early June.

  • Trip to Treehouse brewing/BT’s Barbeque – BT’s has won acclaim as the best BBQ joint in the state, and it’s just up the road from Treehouse in Charlton.

Co-ed/family events

  • Freedom Trail walk – About a dozen people attended the walk, followed by a meal in the North End.

  • Brotherhood/Sisterhood night out – Two dozen people had a great time at the Establishment, in a private room.  A fun time was had by all.

  • A special night honoring Mel Starr – Mel is turning 90 this year, and almost fifty Brotherhood members and spouses honored him.  Some humorous anecdotes were recounted, as well as a gourmet meal of Beef Tenderloin or Cornish game hen by Chef Cris.

Temple service

  • Sukkah building – Every year the Brotherhood builds the Sukkah for the Temple to use during Sukkot, then disassembles and stores it for next year.

  • Latke making –We’re a well-oiled machine, as year after year, the Brotherhood cooks latkes for our school children.

  • Installing the basketball hoop – This year the Brotherhood installed the new basketball hoop in the parking lot, and I heard that people gave Jon the new nickname, “Kareen”, in the shootaround afterwards.
